Tues. Aug. 06, 2019   LAX – Dubai, UAE 

We depart from LAX on Emirate Airlines in the evening.

Wed.  Aug. 7          Dubai

We arrive in Dubai for over night. We have a room in a hotel by the airport to nap and clean-up or you can take a short tour of Dubai. Breakfast is also included before we depart for Kenya.  (B)

Thurs. Aug. 8        Dubai – Nairobi, Kenya

Upon arrival we are met by our local guides and transfer to the hotel for a good night sleep. Serena Nairobi Hotel     

Fri. Aug. 9             Nairobi

After breakfast is a wonderful day of touring Nairobi. You enjoy watching the orphaned baby elephants close-up at The Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, with a description of how they take care of  them. Our day continues to the AFEW Giraffe Center. Have you ever hand fed a giraffe? Now is your chance. The Giraffe center is dedicated to re-establishing the endangered Rothschild’s Giraffe. After lunch in a local restaurant we visit the former home of the author of “Out of Africa”, Karen Blixen. We stop at the Kazuri Bead Factory before returning to our hotel. Serena Nairobi Hotel  (B, L)

Sat. Aug. 10             Nairobi – Nanyuki – Samburu Reserve

We have an early departure from Nairobi heading north to the Samburu Reserve. On the way we stop in Nanyuki (on the equator) for lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon we have our first Safari game drive. Some of the animals that you might encounter are leopard, lion, cheetah, elephant, giraffe, dik-dik, oryx, gazelles, impala. Animals unique to this area are the gerenuk, Somali ostrich and Grevy Zebra plus many birds. Samburu Intrepids Lodge   (B, L, D)

Sun. Aug. 11      Samburu

We have 2 game drives today and visit a unique Samburu Village ($20 per person). Samburu Intrepids Lodge (B, L, D)

Mon & Tues. Aug. 12 – 13    Samburu – Sweetwater

Sweetwater is the home of the Ol Pejeta Conservatory, famous for its black Rhino protection and where you find the Goodall Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Along with our visit to Ol Pejeta we take a safari game drive through this beautiful preserve. Sweetwater Tented Camp  (B, L, D)                                                                     

Wed. Aug. 14    Sweetwater – Nakuru

Our drive takes us through the Great Rift Valley to a preserve surrounding Lake Nakuru a soda lake famous for thousands of flamingos (maybe hundreds of thousands!). Look for Cape buffalo, black rhino, hyenas and lions here. Sarova Lion Hill Lodge    (B, L, D)

Thurs. Aug. 15     Nakuru – Masai Mara

An early morning departure to the Masai Mara. We arrive at our camp in time for lunch and then another great drive in this amazing area that shares the border with Tanzania. Keekorok Lodge    (B, L, D)               

Fri. & Sat.  Aug. 16 – 17        Masai Mara

Two days and 4 safaris in the Masai Mara. Here is where we see the Great Migration – 1.4 million wildebeest and 400,000 zebras make this crossing twice a year.  We also visit a Masai Village ($20 per person). Keekorok Lodge   (B, L, D)                           

Sun. Aug. 18       Masai Mara – Nairobi – Dubai, UAE

We head back to Nairobi where we visit the Nairobi Museum and have an early dinner before taking our flight to Dubai and then home.    (B, late Lunch)

Mon. Aug. 19  Dubai – LAX
